Men's Domestic Violence Intervention Classes
Domestic violence can be defined as the use of verbal abuse and physical force between husband and wife or between couples in an ongoing relationship. It may start with angry words and a shove or a slap. Once a pattern of abuse is established, the assaults can become more frequent and more violent. It may result in permanent physical injury. Sometimes even death. Almost always it leaves the persons involved feeling isolate, angry, disappointed, lonely, and bitter.
Program Objectives
- Educate the offender about what domestic violence is and the dynamics in order for the offender to learn to identify his/her own abusive behaviors.
- Facilitate the offender acknowledging responsibility for abusive actions and consequences of actions.
- Educate the offender about non-abusive, adaptive and pro-social relationships. This includes avoiding actions such as stalking and learning better communication skills.
- Identify and offer alternatives to the offender’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that facilitate abusive behavior.
- Educate and increase the offender’s skills in problem solving conflict resolution.
- Teach the offender self-management techniques to avoid abusive behaviors.
- Identify and decrease the offender’s deficits in social and relationship skills.
Women’s Domestic Violence Intervention Classes
No victim can get real justice when only some victims are deemed legitimate. Every victim counts and every abuser must be held accountable. The existence of female perpetrators and male victims confronts many of our most firmly held beliefs about women, men, sexuality, power, and sexual assault. It challenges our very notions about what sex is. However, blaming only one gender for domestic violence in our society polarizes men and women, when we should be working together for better.
